Class 1 acoustic foam is fire retardant and works great for public buildings and passes fire codes.

Class 2 acoustic foam is a polyurethane foam and is considered fire inhibitive, but not fire retardant. This foam is not recommended for public buildings or where the longevity of the foam is needed as polyurethane foams will deteriorate over time depending on environmental exposures, and the fire inhibitive properties will also deteriorate in approximately 3 to 5 years.
